High Index Lenses

High Index Lenses

What Are High Index Lenses?

At Optical Masters we recommend high index lenses (also known as thin & light lenses) to give you the best looking and most comfortable glasses possible. Lenses can be made of various materials of varying weight and thickness – the overall result depends on the density of the lens material as well as your personal eye prescription. As a general rule, if you are long-sighted your lenses are thickest in the middle, and the opposite is true if you are short-sighted (the lenses are thickest at the edges).  High Index lenses reduce the overall thickness of your lenses, giving them a lighter feel and improving appearance. All come with super easy-clean surfaces that last longer, and are Anti-Reflection coated for clear vision without distractions.

Why High Index Lenses are Popular?

Customers looking for thinner, lighter lenses for their eyewear will often choose high index lenses. Some eyeglass prescriptions require a lens with more power to treat a refractive error. In the past, to meet this vision demand, lenses would be quite thick. The stronger the prescription, the thicker the edges would need to be.  Advancements in technology and chemistry today have resulted in high-index plastic lenses that are thinner and lighter than traditional. High index lenses deliver the same sharp results, but without the weight and clunkiness that larger lenses can cause.
